Construction Voyer to launch six new Net Zero Energy homes in Laval as part of national demonstration project

Feb 16th, 2016 11:27 AM

MEDIA ADVISORY For Release: IMMEDIATELY Location: Laval, Québec When: Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. What: Construction Voyer invites the media to a ribbon-cutting event in Laval to celebrate the completion of six Net Zero Energy homes. The condos, in Laval’s Duvernay East community, were built as part of a national demonstration project that will almost double the amount of Net Zero Energy homes in Canada. Construction Voyer is the only builder from Québec selected for the project. Attendees will be able to tour one of the completed units, as well as view the 146 rooftop solar PV panels that will produce the required energy to make the homes net zero. Additional energy efficient features include advanced insulation technology; triple-pane windows; LED lighting; advanced heating and cooling technology; and an energy monitoring system to track energy consumption in real time. Two of the units are sold, while the remaining four homes are still available for sale to the public. The project’s intent is to demonstrate that Net Zero Energy homes can be built cost-effectively across Canada, on a community-level scale. Net zero homes produce at least as much energy as they consume. Over $4 million in funding and in-kind contributions from Natural Resources Canada’s ecoENERGY Innovation Initiative (ecoEII), Owens Corning Canada and the building industry will allow for the construction of at least 25 Net Zero Energy homes in four provinces.
