When: Monday, November 2, 2015 2:00 p.m. What: Provident Development invites media to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of its first Net Zero Energy Ready home built as part of a Canada-wide project. As part of this project, a minimum of 25 Net Zero Energy homes will be built in five communities across Canada. Provident is the only builder from Atlantic Canada to be selected for this initiative. Provident's Net Zero Energy Ready home is a 2,070-square-foot, three-bedroom-plus-lofted-den home that has been designed and constructed for Net Zero living. It will include an extra two inches of exterior insulation, triple-pane high-performance windows, and heat pump technology used for space heating. The home's roof has been designed to withstand the required load of photovoltaic panels for electricity generation to achieve Net Zero Energy. The goal of the Provident project is to make Net Zero living into reality by building high performance net zero ready homes in a production setting and making it accessible to the everyday consumer. Over $4 million in funding and in-kind contributions from Natural Resources Canada’s ecoENERGY Innovation Initiative (ecoEII), Owens Corning Canada and the building industry will allow for the construction of at least 25 Net Zero Energy homes in four provinces.
