Oct 11th, 2017 8:56 AM
What: Recycling Council of Ontario, The City of Toronto and Value Village host a pop-up clothing swap as part of Waste Reduction Week in Canada. Come and swap out your old Halloween costume for a new one, trade for a new winter coat, or find some new additions for your wardrobe!
Where: Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto
When: Tuesday, October 17, 2017 10am-3pm
Canadians, on average, will dispose of 37 kilograms of textiles (clothing, linens, rags) this year. This is equivalent to every Canadian throwing out 215 t-shirts, which is putting significant pressure on our waste management systems. What’s more, 95 per cent of what is currently thrown away can be reused or re-worn.
Waste Reduction Week in Canada encourages communities to host a clothing swap to extend the lifecycle of apparel, and reminds Canadians to bring gently used material to suitable retailers, charities and thrift stores for reuse and recycling instead of tossing them in the trash.
