(Sept. 24, 2018) – St Marys Cement commemorated 50 years of operating in Bowmanville with a tour of Durham College’s (DC) new Centre for Collaborative Education (CFCE) and a $25,000 donation. The tour of the new, state-of-the-art learning facility included a preview of a Centre for Success classroom named in honour of St Marys Cement. Dr. Elaine Popp, vice-president, Academic at DC welcomed the St Marys team, thanked them for the company’s generous donation and spoke of the importance of support from the community in bringing projects such as the CFCE to fruition. Staff and a recent graduate spoke about the impact of the modern, inspiring space on student success. After the presentation, Tanya Pardy, Human Resources Manager from St Marys Cement’s Bowmanville plant remarked, “St Marys Cement is committed to investing in the communities where we work and live. It’s exciting to know that approximately 13,600 students will attend Durham College in 2018-2019; and, half of DC alumni live right here in our community. We’ve had the pleasure of hiring some very talented Durham College alumni at our plant and look forward to providing exciting career opportunities for generations to come. Last year, St Marys helped DC to celebrate its 50th anniversary by hosting a Brewing Memories Coffee Tour for DC alumni employed at the plant. This year, it’s our turn and we chose to celebrate our 50th anniversary with some very special donations to important causes, including this one to help DC continue to deliver market-driven programs, ensuring students are learning the skills they need to succeed. Our purpose statement is Life is made to Last. It’s as much about the legacy we are creating as the products we produce. We hope this donation goes a long way toward furthering education and creating opportunities at the college and in the community for generations to come.” For more information, contact Tanya Pardy, Human Resources Manager, Votorantim Cimentos, St. Marys Cement Bowmanville, 905-623-3341 x 254 or Mobile: 905-926-3415, Tanya.Pardy@vcimentos.com Images of the donation and names of pictured individuals are available St Marys Cement is a leading manufacturer of cement and related construction products in Canada and the United States.
